Music to My Ears: Kids Run Through the City

Music to My Ears continues as a post every Tuesday with back-to-back Final Fantasy games. This was completely unintentional but it happened anyway so HEY MAN LEAVE ME ALONE I DON’T KNOW

Final Fantasy VI was one of the first RPGs I ever played — and possibly THE first. Back then, me and my Super Nintendo were best friends. I don’t know how many hours I poured into that delightful little system, but it would probably be counted in thousands.

I had a chance to borrow an FFVI cartridge from a friend, so I took him up on his offer. The beginning of the game wasn’t all that interesting (besides the story), and I almost stopped playing when the group split into three parts if it weren’t for Locke stealing people’s clothes and threatening to rip their throats out. But once the party got back together and the opera scene unfolded, I was hooked.

Kids Run Through the City is a fancy way of saying “Town Theme,” but it’s one of my favorite tracks from the game. There’s something peaceful and idyllic about the soft strings and great harmonies. You would think that there was some serious potential for this theme getting old because it’s used in just about every town pre-apocalypse, but the opposite was true — it made me look forward to towns instead.
