As we jump into the new year, we’re in a time of transition over on our YouTube channel. We’ll be finished with our playthrough of Trails of Cold Steel this week (after six months of videos to get there). Michaela enjoyed the ending of the first game so much that we essentially just jumped straight into recording the sequel, which will start posting next Monday.
Cold Steel II does quite a few things to change up the formula, although I can only post about a few of them without spoiling things for a certain someone. These range from little things (like improved character model and animation quality even among some reused assets) to big things (like REDACTED and also the moment where REDACTED and finally who could believe that REDACTED).
In all seriousness, the second half of the game does a great job of letting the player feel like they have an abundance of options and a much less linear approach. You can check out our playthrough of that game starting next week. In the meantime, here’s one of the earliest tracks that’s exclusive to the sequel, a mysterious-sounding ditty that plays in a few locations. It has a slow build that I enjoy tremendously.
