We’ve covered music from The Legend of Heroes series multiple times before in this space. Like a lot of work by Falcom Sound Team jdk, there are some excellent choices from a variety of games. Hell, I haven’t even had a chance to touch the Ys series yet, and some folks say that’s the best of the best.
While Falcom has gotten more recognition in the States due to the success of the Trails games (both Sky and Cold Steel), we’re still missing several releases from LoH. One of the most glaring omissions is Zero no Kiseki and Ao no Kiseki, a game and its sequel set in between the two Trails trilogies (and referenced in both).
I’m not normally the type to listen to soundtracks without having played the game first, but I needed some background music to focus on some writing last week and stumbled upon this track, which is probably my second favorite of anything I’ve heard from Falcom to this point.
There are two versions below: Evolution and the original. Both titles were eventually ported to the Vita after their initial PSP release, and with them came additional voice acting and new takes on the soundtrack. It’s the Evolution version up top that I’m crazy about — the original one is really just there as reference, although there are some people who prefer it. Still, as far as epic boss themes go, you can’t go wrong either way.
