Music to My Ears: Clash on the Big Bridge (FFRK Remix)

We’re switching gears a bit this week with a new twist on an old classic.

Clash on the Big Bridge has made several appearances throughout the Final Fantasy series since its original outing in V. Usually it has something to do with Gilgamesh showing up and trolling you, probably making remarks about fighting men who wear dresses or whatever else is on his mind at the time.

Since then, XII had a pretty cool take on the classic battle theme. XIII-2 also had a version that seemed thematically appropriate but never really clicked with me. And then there was Record Keeper.

We’ve talked about FFRK on the podcast before — it was even in my top five favorite games of last year. It’s a fun little trip down nostalgia road, with all of the characters and music from the Final Fantasy games that you loved from back in the day. This week, there’s a boss rush mode where the original Clash on the Big Bridge theme takes center stage, and it reminded me of this.

The remix is a blend of the usual frenetic pace of the original, with more modern instruments and the prerequisite choir tossed in for fun — and a new bridge (get it) section that’s pretty cool as well. So for the hell of it, here’s 30 minutes of our old pal Gilgamesh’s music.

“Let’s see how you handle the mighty me! And by me, I mean Gilgamesh!! And by handle, I mean DIE!!!”

Music to My Ears covers soundtracks or individual songs from video games. You can view all posts in the series by clicking here.
