I have yet to finish the second season of Sword Art Online II, but I really enjoy listening to this song and felt I had to talk about it as soon as possible. At first, I didn’t care for “Ignite”. I thought it was a generic sounding opening that, while good for sure, didn’t stick out in my mind. However, the more I watched the show, the more I found myself watching this opening specifically for the action sequence in the middle. It was largely due to said action that I ultimately came to love the song and listen to it constantly. As a result, the opening to Sword Art Online II is really strong for both the song and the visual images accompanying it.

Actually, it’s funny you mentioned you had to keep watching the anime before this song finally grew on you. It’s kind of the opposite for me. I’m currently watching the original Japanese subbed Sailor Moon from the ’90s and while it took some getting used to hearing the Japanese voice actors and not the English ones I grew up on, it also took some time to have the opening theme grow on me. The more I kept watching the opening sequence for each episode, the more I eventually found myself actually liking the original Japanese opening theme. Sometimes, you have to give certain things a chance. Or if you listen to it enough, it just gets stuck in your head. Maybe not to the point of annoyance. 🙂
That happens a surprising number of times to me, hah hah. Sometimes songs just need some time to grow on you and become even more likable, hah hah. I will say I’ve been lucky in that I have yet to find an opening/ending that annoys me if I hear it too much. Which is good because I hate it when things get so popular or stuck in my head to the point of annoyance. It’s not fun, hah hah. 🙂
Hope you enjoy the remainder of the series. I think the final story arc was the season’s strongest part.

The first and last story arc were very good. I didn’t care for the short filler they sandwiched in between though.
I did start that arc and found that all of the exposition in that first episode of that arc was really strange, but if it’s sandwiched in then that explains it, hah hah. Good to know, I’ll keep the two good arcs in mind! 😀
